Francheval is located in the east of France near the Belguim border not far from Sedan in the present day region of Champagne.
The Jaunay family records date from 1714 in this town.
The church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine is a fortified church that provided refuge for villagers in the turbulent times before the region, an independent principality centred on Sedan, was annexed by France from 1651.
